A book for astrologers

Andrey Drobotin

Introduction

This book is about Mars. In Sanskrit he is called Mangal, Kuja, Angaraka. For me this is a special graha: Mars is the lord of my ascendant (my lagnesh). So I know well how much effort it takes to come to terms with him.

Why do you need this book? Mars is the principle of action. You speak, eat, walk, work — all of this is Mars. Without him nothing happens in this world. And where Mars is, there will certainly be conflict. Look right now at which house your Mars occupies: most likely this is the area where you have the most tension. That is not a mistake. It is your field of action, and you need to grow through these conflicts.

The book is for astrologers, but it will be useful to anyone who wants to understand their anger, their will and their energy.

What you will get in practice:

  • learn to assess Mars with a twelve-point plan: retrogression, dig bala, sign, relationships, aspects, kartari, planetary war, combustion, function, yogakaraka, vargottama;
  • understand why a strong Mars does not mean a good one, and why Mars cannot simply be "strengthened";
  • see Mars in the three gunas — from the knight who protects the weak to the person who destroys everything around;
  • master a simple formula: how to combine Mars with a sign and describe what a person is like in action;
  • work through Mars in the houses and in conjunctions;
  • learn how to direct the energy of Mars into creation.

Chapter 6. Mars in the Twelve Houses

The main rule

Wherever Mars stands, there will be both conflict and a field of growth. The house shows where the person must act.

And one more rule I repeat at every consultation: an afflicted planet needs to be channeled into a profession. If Mars is badly placed in some house, it's pointless to wait for him to "calm down" there. He needs to be given work connected with that house. Then the energy that was destroying starts to build.

H1H2H3H4H5H6H7H8H9H10H11H121st house: head and body
H1H2H3H4H5H6H7H8H9H10H11H124th house: a warrior in the kitchen
H1H2H3H4H5H6H7H8H9H10H11H127th house: kuja dosha
H1H2H3H4H5H6H7H8H9H10H11H128th house: research and risk
H1H2H3H4H5H6H7H8H9H10H11H1210th house: the best place
H1H2H3H4H5H6H7H8H9H10H11H1212th house: losses and foreign lands

House by house

First house. Energy, sport, an active body. But Mars in the first also means head injuries. If it is a child, protect the head: a helmet on the bike, care in games. Health needs attention, and the best medicine is regular physical exercise: yoga, sport.

Second house. Harsh speech. The person may swear and speak rudely without noticing. Short memory occurs. The work here is on speech: watching the word, which is already an action.

Third house. An upachaya house, the house of effort and courage. Mars is good here: the person is brave, pushes through, builds their own life. Relationships with younger siblings are active.

Fourth house. No space of one's own. It is hard for the person to get along with others at home; there are conflicts in the family. We discussed this in the chapter on dig bala: "a warrior in the kitchen". For a child — a room of their own; for an adult — an occupation outside the home.

Fifth house. Action through hobbies, creativity, sport, games. Conflicts with children are possible, and Mars in tamas may direct harshness precisely at them. Here it is especially important to watch the guna.

Sixth house. An upachaya house. Mars defeats enemies, illnesses, competitors. Good for doctors, surgeons, athletes, military people.

Seventh house. Kuja dosha. Many demands on the partner, arguments, struggle in the relationship. The partner must be active, otherwise the person starts "fighting" them. A shared venture and shared sport help.

Eighth house. Risk of accidents and injuries. But also professions: firefighters, rescuers, intelligence, research, work with the hidden. If Mars is directed into research, he stops working through accidents.

Ninth house. Arguments with the father, the teacher, religious authorities. The person wants to figure everything out themselves. It's good when they fight for their convictions rather than against the teacher.

Tenth house. The best place for Mars, maximum dig bala. Career, leadership, management, engineering, the army, business. Just remember about burnout.

Eleventh house. An upachaya house and the house of gains. Action brings profit; the person is active in groups and friendships.

Twelfth house. Losses through health, expenses, hospitals. Work abroad, work in closed institutions. It is good to direct such a Mars into spiritual practice, service, work far from home. My Mars stands here together with Saturn.

Kuja dosha in brief

Mars in the first, fourth, seventh, eighth and twelfth houses is traditionally called kuja dosha, or mangal dosha. It is not a sentence. It is a sign that there will be a lot of energy in the marriage and it must be directed. A shared venture, sport, common goals. How to soften it in a couple is judged from both spouses' charts together.
