Introduction

Look at how the planets are arranged around the Sun. Here is Mercury, here is Venus, here is our Earth, here is Mars. And here is Jupiter, far beyond the Earth. Everything beyond the Earth is called the outer planets. They are connected with more global tasks and concepts.

Mercury stands close to the Sun and symbolizes more down-to-earth things. With Mercury we analyse, engage reason, gather facts. And Jupiter gives these facts a deeper meaning. Mercury structures, while Jupiter generalizes and lifts a person to a new, global level.

Jupiter is the largest and heaviest planet in our Solar System. It is called Guru. From Sanskrit this translates as "heavy". The heavy teacher. Jupiter embodies knowledge, and knowledge, as you know, is never light.

What this book is for

From Jupiter's position you can say a lot about a person: their morality, their principles, their views, their spiritual ideals. How much they want to grow and how much they don't. Jupiter shows where we grow, who our teachers are, where luck, well-being and unexpected gifts of fate come to us from.

But in this book I want to teach you the main thing: to connect. Judging Jupiter only from the position of "good — bad", "plus — minus" is the beginner's level. A person can be sad and joyful, strong and weak, rich and poor. So can a planet. You need to go through all the parameters and assemble them into one picture.

From this book you will learn:

  • what Jupiter is and why it is the planet of expansion;
  • who its friends are and why it is hostile to Mercury, Venus and Rahu;
  • how to assess its strength with a twelve-point plan and put the points together;
  • how Jupiter shows up in the three gunas;
  • what it expands in each sign and each house;
  • how to read its conjunctions;
  • and how to connect with Jupiter's energy in everyday life.

You will see that Jupiter depends on us more than it seems. It wakes up early in the morning, grows when we share knowledge, and falls asleep when we sit in front of a screen late into the night.

Chapter 6. Jupiter in the Twelve Houses

The main rule

The formula is the same as with signs: Jupiter's principle plus the themes of the house. Wherever Jupiter stands, that area it expands. There the person seeks meaning, there are their teachers, there they themselves can teach. And don't forget the houses Jupiter rules: it expands them too.

Jupiter aspects the fifth, seventh and ninth houses from itself. So always check not only the house where it stands but also the three houses it blesses with its glance.

And one more important rule: the house matters more than the sign. Jupiter may stand in a strong sign but in a house uncomfortable for it, and then its strength is reduced.

Two special points

Marana karaka sthana — the third house

The third house is the house of Kama, the house of desires. Material efforts are born here: the ability to see things through, decisiveness, purposefulness, initiative. Opposite it, the ninth house is spiritual effort. Jupiter is a spiritual planet and feels uncomfortable in material efforts. In the third house it is at its weakest, even if the sign is good. This is its marana karaka sthana.

Karaka bhava nashaya

There is a principle: a karaka in its own house can damage that house. Jupiter has many such points here, where the living significations may suffer.

  • Fifth house. Jupiter is the karaka of children. If Jupiter is in the fifth or Jupiter is the lord of the fifth, children may suffer.
  • Second house. Harm may come to close relatives, or relationships with them may suffer.
  • Tenth house. There may be problems with superiors: the person will keep trying to prove something.
  • Eleventh house. Problems with elders. I have often seen this combination.
  • Ninth house. The person argues with their father. Jupiter is a fiery planet; there is a lot of it, and it is harder to come to an agreement. The person wants to talk, wants to show off their knowledge.

It may or may not happen — we don't draw conclusions from one indicator. Look at other factors.

Halves of the chart

We have already talked about dig bala: maximum in the first house, minimum in the seventh. The first house is morning, dawn, the time when the scriptures are studied. The closer Jupiter is to the first house, the stronger a person's inclination toward their own spiritual development.

In the sixth, seventh and eighth houses Jupiter loses dig bala. A person can be an excellent teacher, businessman, spouse, help others. But they tend to put off their own development and not apply what they teach. For spiritual growth they need to make an extra effort.

H1H2H3H4H5H6H7H8H9H10H11H121st house: a natural mentor
H1H2H3H4H5H6H7H8H9H10H11H122nd house: wisdom and abundance
H1H2H3H4H5H6H7H8H9H10H11H123rd house: marana karaka
H1H2H3H4H5H6H7H8H9H10H11H125th house: children and self-education
H1H2H3H4H5H6H7H8H9H10H11H127th house: weak dig bala
H1H2H3H4H5H6H7H8H9H10H11H129th house: arguing with the father

House by house

First house. The strongest position by dig bala. A natural mentor, leader, teacher. Such people are very prominent; others listen to them on questions of morality, ethics, spiritual knowledge. From here Jupiter aspects the fifth, seventh and ninth houses: children and study, the partner, the father and teacher.

Second house. Jupiter is the natural karaka of the second house, resources. It brings wisdom, financial well-being, good speech. My Jupiter is in the second house, and I feel this well in my own life. By the principle of "karaka bhava nashaya", relationships with close relatives sometimes suffer.

Third house. Marana karaka sthana. Jupiter is uncomfortable in the house of material desires and efforts. Knowledge through hearing is its nature, and here there may even be hearing difficulties. It is important for the person to direct their efforts, the third house, into serving the ninth: dharma.

Fourth house. The fourth house of the natural zodiac is Cancer, Jupiter's sign of exaltation. By the formula Jupiter expands the themes of home, soul, mother, property, inner peace. It is a kendra, a house of Vishnu — a strong place for Jupiter.

Fifth house. The house of children, creativity, self-education, purva punya. Jupiter is the karaka of the fifth, and "karaka bhava nashaya" works here: matters of children need attention. But it is also the house of learning. A person with a weak fifth house who starts studying knowledge gets purified and blossoms.

Sixth house. A dusthana and loss of dig bala. Here Jupiter serves: it helps solve other people's problems and can make a good consultant. But for one's own development an extra effort is needed. For Libra lagna Jupiter is the lord of the sixth house.

Seventh house. The weakest position by dig bala. The person can be a good teacher, a businessman, a good spouse. In a woman's chart Jupiter signifies the husband, and here it is right in the house of partnership. But the person tends to put off their own development.

Eighth house. Secret knowledge, transformation, research. For Taurus lagna Jupiter is the lord of the eighth house: it pulls them out of their comfort zone toward spirituality. Expansion here may come through crises. The tide washes away the house on the shore.

Ninth house. The house of dharma, teachers, the father. Jupiter is at home here in meaning: philosophy, pilgrimage, high ideals. But by the principle of "karaka bhava nashaya" the person may argue with their father: they want to talk, want to show off their knowledge.

Tenth house. Jupiter brings morality, teaching, counselling into the career. But there may be problems with superiors: the person will keep trying to prove something.

Eleventh house. Gains, friends, social projects. By "karaka bhava nashaya" — difficulties with elders.

Twelfth house. The natural house of Pisces: moksha, solitude, charity, foreign lands. By the formula Jupiter expands the themes of liberation and generosity. It is a dusthana, and material results may slip away, but for spiritual practice the position is good.
